This is so awesome. The love everyone has for Eyedea, Mikey, gives me hope. Inspires me to be a better person. He wasn’t perfect but he was him, and just being himself he touched so many millions of lives across the world and at home. I hope I can achieve a fraction of his success at making the world a better place.

I can still remember the day i herd the news abot Eyedea, and that moment i felt we had lost one of the Greats in musical history. I am so sorry for your loss Kathy, i truley am. Your sons music holds a special place in my heart, and always will. Even as i write this i am listening to “By the Throat”. and i cant help but shed a tear because the song hits home for me. Your son had a way with words that only few can master. I only met Mikey one time outside 5th element in mpls and i will never forget the day that i shook his hand. Thank your Kathy for bringing him into this world, i couldnt emagine what my life would be like without Mikeys music. Thank You.

Today I was at Cherokee park. Not knowing anything about micheals memorial or to be honest not even knowing who he is. And nothing about his music. But I did see a lady laying a flower to rest as I past I couldn’t help but say “sorry for your loss”. she replied with thank you. But there was something there I her eyes that drew me in and I went back to read the memorial, I immediate thought of the landslide out there and thought how shameful. But again the love this lady had in her face as she sat at the bench and when she walked away struck me. To my surprise it was nothing to do with the mudslide. But something completely different and as I read people’s storys I had become more intrigued. I never knew Micheal but today I know his story. I saw the sorrow of what I believe to be his mother and grandmother. I have two children the loss of either would crush me. My heart goes out to all of you. I will take the time to listen to his gift. And forever I will hold the image of these lady’s on that bench on Mother’s Day. This is life, we see things every day I’m just glad that I was paying attention. happy Mother’s Day to all mothers. Too my mom I’m sure you will never see this post but if I should ever forget to say the words I do love you and thank you for all you do.

  5. […] part of me had died with him. I didn’t get to attend any memorial services for Mikey, or the bench dedication in Cherokee Park in Saint Paul that was held a few years ago. His death has been an open wound that has never been fully healed. […]
