Mikey

So this week I put a story up about how early in life Mikey demonstrated how much he cared about people. So here’s a story which was a very years older he would of been about 11 at the time. It was summer and the kids in the neighborhood were playing ditch in the dark. So it’s about 9:30 – 10:00pm and the kids are running around the neighborhood, hiding in yards, jumping fences, just being kids in the summertime. Well Mikey ran through this yard and tripped on a leg sticking out of this shed. It scared him, he took a stick and poked it and it didn’t move or make a sound so he grabbed his friend Anthony and he too poked at it and even touched it. Then they came running home, yelling that there is a dead body in the yard down the street. Now even back about 15 yrs ago it was much safer to play around your neighborhood we knew all the people who lived in a two block radius of our house. Knew all the kids, their parents, phone numbers the whole bit. It was much more neighborhoody than it is today. Now I don’t even know all the people who live on my block. Anyway they were so up set I went to the house and knocked on the door no-one answered so I called the police. They came and met us at the house, they tried the house door again no answer. So they went into the yard and found two legs which were attached to a passed out drunk. He was alive just out cold. Just as they got him up the owner of the house came home. She told the police that she sometimes allows this guy to sleep it off in her shed. She said he had been a family friend of her family’s growing up so she felt it was ok. Which yes it was, she had kids and not having him in the house but still helping out is/was a good thing. It just another way Mikey was always looking out for others. Love Kathy
